The End of Faith - Religion, Terror, and the Future of Reason go to comments

by Sam Harris

In the shadow of weapons of mass destruction, we can no longer tolerate views that pit one true god against another.
(I would add: any “total-itarian” world view, not just religion/theocracy; e.g. communism, fascism !)

Harris calls for an end to respect and tolerance for the competing belief systems of religion!, which he describes as being “all equally uncontaminated by evidence”.
He is equally critical of religious moderation: an accommodation that only blinds us to the real perils of fundamentalism.
Possibly the most controversial aspect of The End of Faith is an uncompromising assessment and criticism of Islam, which Harris describes as being a “cult of death” (backed up by numerous quotations from the Koran and survey results showing that significant percentages of Muslims would justify suicide bombing as a legitimate tactic).
He is also critical of moral relativism and leftist – “unreason” / paternalism / angelism …

“Politically incorect”, excessive?, impassioning, scary! A must read! But I don’t agree 100%; It’s not just religion that is/can be dangerous, I think it’s all strong “emotionally loaded” belief systems. Those systems (including religion, politics) are easily contaminated by unreason and totalitarism. The problem is that most humans like to blindingly follow simple ideas…
